Hi,

I am a newcomers of this website.  As I am used to read the Chinese books, I have fewer chance to approach the author in the western country. I would like to ask which author is good for me to start in this field.

Hello Jeanhealth,

Sorry, but I don't understand exactly what you are looking for:

Are you from China? And are you looking for more Chinese titles?

Best wishes from The Netherlands,

Martijn.

Hi Martijn,

Actually, I am from Hong Kong. I have many books in Chinese titles. I just want to make out more foreign author.

:coolIf you are already studying for a while, I would suggest that you pick up a more modern writer. Johnny Fincham has some good books. Lori Reed is good as well. William Benham's book on Scientific Hand Reading is a classic in Western hand reading. Cheiro's "Palmistry for All" is free at the Project Guttenburg library web site. Actually Sue Compton has an online course here that has had great reviews.

Best of luck.

Den

try to find a copy of jo sheridan's "what your hands reveal." it is a great book with lots of very clear drawings and a good course outline. it's out of print but look for it on alibris.com or one of the other used book sites. it was my introduction to palmistry. i think you will really like it. don't be discouraged by it's slim size. all the palmistry knowledge is condensed! what chinese palmistry books could you recommend for me that are written in english?   is chinese palmistry very different that western? thanks, tmara

Hello Tmara,

Actually, I found that each author will have his own view on palmistry although same viewspoint will be found too. The terms may be different. However, the difference of viewpoints is not related to the area.

Thanks for that one Tmara, I don't recall ever having heard of Jo Sheridan's book before. I found a cheap copy on the internet today and so there's another one for my collection! Now I just need a bigger cupboard to keep them all in.

Sorry I don't know of a Chinese palmistry book written in English, tho I think Manfred has one, or knows of one, from someone who was at Ed Campbell's biometrics conference.  The Book "Chinese Hand Analysis" by Terence Dukes turns out to be not based on Chinese palmistry at all! I still learnt a lot from it tho.

Hi Janhealth, you're right, a lot of palmistry books appear to have conflicting interpretations. However I find that if you go back to the basic principles & look at the feature in a general way, often you can see how they arrived at their more specific interpretation, and that even ones that seem to conflict actually have some underlying common ground. Not always tho ;-)

(edit - PS) Jan I just noticed your first post here and see you've read some Chinese palmistry books. It would be interesting to hear more from you about Chinese palmistry, maybe a new discussion on it please as I don't know anything abut Chinese palmistry and would love to learn more about their approach.
