lol this was also a running joke in my calculus class back in high school. (I think I might've had something to do with that.)

HI,

That's really good, the sort of joke you laugh out loud on the inside. I found these simple and neat, especially the last one, it's a cracker!

Hello Sue,

Very nice to see this after 1967, because there was a theorum in geomatery, which was probably most important at that time for exam question papers to be solved:

one arm of triangle: 3 cm  [if we calculate area of square for this value]

that will be :   3 cm x 3cm  =        12sq.cm

of second arm: 4cm x4cm =          16 sq. cm

TOTAL AREA OF TWO SQUARES = 28 sq. cm.

This total area equals to total area of square formed by the third diagonal arm of the triangle, which is 28 sq. cm.

So, to find the value of X, divide the area of square by 4 i.e. 28/4 = 7cm.

Although, this was a lengthy explanation by me, this could be

  3cm+ 4 cm  =  7 cm

which was explained in second part of that theorum.

HOWEVER THIS RULE APPLIES ONLY WHEN THE MARKED ANGLE IS OF 90 degree

AS THERE IS A SQUARE FORMED AT THAT ANGLE IN THE PROBLEM UNDER QUESTION.

I am quite sure that back in 1967 the product of 3x3 was 9 already ... and fortunately mathmatics still does make sense.

:rofl

THANKS Hand_research,

mathematic is always correct, there may be some errors by humanbeings while presenting a answer to a question and the same was the case with me while submitting reply to this post.

HERE I WILL LIKE TO QUOTE A LINE FROM RED BOOK [LAL KITAB] OF ASTRO PALMISTRY, WHERE IT IS CLEARLY MENTIONED:

AAP KO AAP KI GALTIYAN BATANE WALA AAP KAA SAB SE BADA HITESHI HOGA.

interprettation of this in english will be:

THAT WHO POINTS OUT YOUR ERRORS [FAULTS] WILL BE BENIFICIAL TO YOU or WILL BE A TRUE FRIEND.

because you can correct your mistakes and proceed further in an accurate direction.

THUS I AM THANKFUL TO YOU FOR POINTING OUT THIS ERROR IN PRESENTATION.

SORRY, it was a typing mistake, infact, it was to be typed as

3cm x 4 [not cm value][these are the four sides of a square] = 12 sq. cm

4cm x 4 [-------------------------------do----------------------------     = 16 sq. cm

Thanks Hand_research for pointing out the error and geting it corrected for proper presentation.

Hello Mr Bhandari,

Thank your for the friendship!

As a friend I finallly would like to point out that regarding the result of your counting in which the 'x' appeared to be have a value of: 7 (???) ... if you start a re-count with 3x3=9, I am sure that you will find out that the 'x' in the triangle actually has the value 5.

Good luck my friend!

Thanks my friend Hand-research,

Pythagoras was the thinker who discovered the Pythagorean Theorem in geometry (although none of his actual writings are extant). The theorem states that the sum of the squares of the two legs of a right triangle is equal to the square of the hypotenuse. Not much is known about Pythagoras, other than that he was a mathematician and philosopher who founded a community in southern Italy sometime in the 6th century B.C. and born in GREECE.

There was a confusion with me in calculating the area of a square, and I tried to multiply side with 4 [i.e. four sides of a square] instead of taking product of two of its sides i.e. 3x3 .

You are right here, I should have used value three instead of 4, so  your reply i.e. 5 is correct.

Thanks for your compliments...rabinder bhandari

Mr. Bhandari,

Thanks for your comments on Pythagoras ... yes, this is also known as the 'triangle of Pythagoras'!

By the way, as might know my name is Martijn van Mensvoort ... so as we have become 'friends', please feel free to use my name.

Best wishes from the Netherlands!

Martijn.

Hello my friend Martijn,

Thanks Martijn for your words and sharing knowledge in math.

As I know, it is the proper way to gain knowledge by accepting our errors and faults, which makes any one to improve and move in a proper direction by correcting them.

Good God!  I don't know where this photo was taken, but it could surely have been taken in a biology class of students studying the skeleton!

Dieting to the extreme!
