Reposting as the website ate my post. =/

Hello there,

I'd like to congratulate you on the move to a new place. It seems many people have adjusted without much of a problem.

I however have run into some problems with this new website and they are quite an annoying thing. =/

Firstly, everything loads really weird at first. Like, the forum is missing and only the toolbar shows. It returns to normal in a moment however. It could be how you've programmed things to load, but I never had the issue on the old site.

Secondly, when I try to type in this box here, my blinker/cursor starts out missing and sometimes I can't get it to type at all no matter how many times I click this posting area. Reloading the pages a few times might work after clicking a bit.

Another issue is with quotes: When I quote someone I try to click under the quote but there's no space there so it won't let me go past the " (which keeps me in their quote.)  If I use the arrow key or space bar it still gives the error and sometimes puts the cursor up at the top in the post somewhere. Takes a lot of clicking before I can actually get it in the right place. Just frustrating. >.<

For a suggestion of a new feature,  I'd be very happy if when replying to someone that under the typing box I post in (this here) the site shows the post of the person I'm replying to, not the first poster at the top as its default currently is. This makes it easier for me to see who I'm replying to and to double check what they said without having to scroll down or fish through pages if there are a lot of replies.

I use Mozilla Firefox and NoScript. The latter I have to temporarily deactivate to even post anything as there seems to be a LOT of scripting here. Perhaps the conflict with these programs is why I might have all the glitches.

If you can give this knowledge to your website's programmer, perhaps they'll be able to make the adjustments for these programs.

I still like the site very much though, new skins are always nice as well. =)

Thank you very much for your time.

Hi Eiren

I'm sorry to hear that you have found problems using the site and will contact the web developer to see what can be done.

I am aware of some issues between Firefox and the wowbb forums, and have checked this out several times.  It remains unresolved however.  After logging in as you, I tried out the features you mentioned, but didn't have any problems.  I am using Internet Explorer, so I can only assume that if you are continuing to have problems, it must be due to some incompatibility with your choice of browser.

I have also noticed a difference in the length of time it takes for the page to load.  This wasn't an issue before but now, when I log in, it does take a little more time to load the home page.  When the site first moved, this was a particular issue with me as well, but it has since improved.

There are no new skins available for these forums at the moment, so any changes made have to be done by me.  I will be looking into this and offering more skins as and when they are completed.

Thank you for letting me know about these issues.  I will contact the web developer and see what can be done about them.

Sue

I forgot to mention one other thing.  You mentioned that the web site 'ate' your original post!  This has happened to several members and is due to the site timing out just as you are sending your post.  It can be very frustrating to spend some time writing a post, just to find it has disappeared and you have to start all over again.

I have been caught out with this on several occasions, so now, to ensure that I don't lose my original words when writing a long post, I ALWAYS copy my text first, before clicking on the send button, so that if the post does disappear, I can simply open another reply box and paste my original words into the text box.

Sue

Hi Eireen & Susan,

Eireen, thanks for making this noticed! :thumbsup

I am using windows media explorer 6.0, but I recognize only a few of the problems (slow loading + losing post after typing a long message).

Susan, I just did a Meta Tag Analysis on the homepage of the forum which reports e.g.:

Web page analysis.

This page contains too many URLs.
This tag contains 105 urls. Some Search Engines have problems with more than 100 urls on
a page.
The size of the web page is to big.
The size of the web page is 55995 bytes.

The web page load time.
The web page load time is 1 seconds.

:rofl ... this might explain some of problems!

I hope you're able to handle these issues.

Martijn.

(PS. I am aware that my computer needs to be reinstalled soon, and I expect that my problems will improve after the reinstallation)

I have noticed lately.... myself & others had reply messages showing two or three times. Just now I posted a reply and got "server error" page - so I hit the back button and the reply box was empty...I thought my message had been lost (and I forgot to copy it before sending!!:darn) but I returned to the main forum index and I see my reply posted OK.

Sorry this kind of thing is a nightmare for forum owners, who don't have their hand on all the controls. I don't expect you to know all the answers, just reporting the problem.

Yes Lynn, I had the same experience last weekend ... though I would not describe this as a problem.
:thumbsup

Thanks for reporting these problems.  I am aware of them, however, because I check the community several times each day and always read ALL the messages at least once, if not more.

I have absolutely no idea why the forums are acting up with the duplication of posts.  I, too, got an error page last week, and wondered if it was related to some issues I had at that time with the web host, but I no longer believe this to be the cause.

The forum is awaiting an upgrade over the next few days, and hopefully this may well fix some of the glitches.

I'm sorry about the problems, but if you do find your post being duplicated, please don't worry about it, and don't bother altering or editing it, because I will come along at some point not too long after you have posted, notice it, and delete the offending message/s.

In the meantime, I will try to find out what may be causing the problem

Sue

Hi Sue,

Great to see that the last updates of the forum had some fruitfull results:

Web page analysis.

The size of the web page.
The size of the web page is 49882 bytes.

The web page load time.
The web page load time is 2 seconds.

:thumbup

This should have a positive effect on the issues mentioned above in this discussion.

By the way, I have reinstalled my computer last week, the load time of the forum is still not very fast, but obviously the technical indicators indicate that the load time is normal.

PS. For a continued visibility of the forum in search engines, you better upload some description & keyword tags!

Hi Sue,

This item 'Recent Topics' used to present a large list of updated discussions. Now this items present only 2 discussions.

Is this a permanent change? (I hope it is not, for a larger list is VERY usefull to see what is going on at the various sub-forums!)

Martijn.

Hi Martijn

I altered it temporarily while I was working in the private area of this site, but have now put it back to its original.

It seems to take some time to kick in however, so hopefully it will be back at some point in the not too distant future.

Sue
